HOUSING

It’s important that banks invest in the communities they serve. Bank regulators, the Office of the Comptroller (OCC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), are proposing changes that could significantly weaken the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) which would reduce bank accountability, threaten investments in affordable housing, small businesses, charitable giving, and community development across the country.

If the Community Reinvestment Act rollback happens, it would jeopardize and reduce bank investments in housing financed with low income housing tax credits (LIHTC). Housing production using LIHTC in Washington State would be devastatingly impacted. Home loans to households in low- and moderate-income census tracts and communities would drop. Nationally, thousands of bank branches in underserved communities could be eliminated as the threshold for a passing CRA score would be reduced.

The comment period to protect the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) is closing tomorrow, October 13, and your voice could make a difference. Take action now to protect the CRA.  https://ncrc.org/cra/?utm_campaign=CRA&utm_medium=email&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-9x-cJsvkNx4xcE7d8bKi_c1EOGDLlRHAAOcZKaIrBX5GssVkuHX-RmOi52JgqfgmBu70J1t42kkiGDkiDn9dS7NkWXtA&_hsmi=441575117&utm_content=441575117&utm_source=hs_email#action
