Department of Labor has proposed a rule that would allow private equity firms and cryptocurrency investments into defined contribution retirement plans like 401Ks. What does that actually mean? It means that some of the riskiest, least transparent financial products in the marketcould soon be packaged as smart retirement investments for workers across the country. If this rule moves forward, workers could be exposed to hidden fees that could drain accounts and could make it hard for people to access their accounts, putting retirement savings at risk. The Department of Labor has an open comment period where people just like you can provide their feedback on this proposed change. Submit your official comment now to demand that retirement savings be protected from both private equity and crypto schemes.

Connected Community Innovations (CCI) wants to share an important opportunity to support emerging work focused on strengthening community accountability, housing justice, and access to resources for people experiencing homelessness by applying for two Connected Community Innovations board positions. The board is currently partnering with CCI Advisory Board Member Tamara Bauman to develop community kiosks that help our unhoused community access critical resources and services and conduct a well-being audit of the homelessness system. Their team has been especially diligent in their efforts, given the recent negative audit findings involving King County Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) and King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA), and they continue to approach this work as true partners for housing justice and community accountability.
As CCI continues to grow, its goal is to strengthen governance, oversight, and credibility while building sustainable systems rooted in transparency and community leadership.
They are especially interested in candidates who bring experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Nonprofit governance or board leadership
• Homelessness, housing, or services for people in need
• Public-sector or community-based programs
• Legal, finance, audit, or compliance
• Technology applied to social impact
In particular, individuals with direct lived experience related to homelessness would be highly valued. Veteran experience combined with insight into homelessness or community services would also be an especially strong fit for CCI’s mission and vision.
If you are interested in learning more or in applying, contact Tamara Bauman tamara@wearelec.org for additional information. CCI hopes to expand this opportunity outside King County in the future.
