A few quick announcements that can't wait.
There will be a vigil this Saturday, July 25 at the Issaquah Police Station/City Hall, 130 E Sunset Way, with an optional march to follow for two recent victims of ICE shootings.
On July 7, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Houston while driving a work van with his crew. On July 13, ICE fatally shot 26-year-old Johan Sebastian Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine — his wife and toddler forced to witness his murder.
Both men were beloved members of their communities, killed on their way to work. This will be a vigil to demand Justice for Lorenzo. Justice for Johan. Justice for All. ICE Out. If you bring signs please limit them to those related to these deaths. We will welcome flowers and bells to be carried in the march after the vigil
A core principle behind all Disappeared In America events is a commitment to nonviolent action.We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
From Sophia’s Place:
You may have seen the news that King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) has activated a Severe Weather Advisory due to the extreme heat over the next few days. During these advisories, our Sophia's Place shelter in Bellevue extends the day center, remaining open an additional five hours (until 8:00 p.m) every night.
This unexpected increase means we're serving many more women than usual, and our planned meals and food supplies are stretched.
If you're able to, we'd be incredibly grateful if you could help with any of the following:
Share this need with your friends, family, and networks
Donate frozen treats (popsicles, ice cream bars), individually packaged snacks, or breakfast items
Consider purchasing an item from our Amazon Wishlist, if that's easier
Consider making a monetary donation to offset the extra staff hours and higher utility costs
Normally we ask that donations be delivered to our Donation Center, but for this specific need during the heat advisory, donations may be delivered directly to Sophia's Place. We have given them a heads up that there may be impromptu deliveries.
